Aaron watched Kelsey’s chest slow with her breathing. Her breasts were mesmerizing. Hell, her brain was mesmerizing. He could get used to this, but he wouldn’t. They were two virtual strangers in a temporary situation, and soon each would return to the real world. Besides, he had no business entertaining thoughts of a long-term relationship with this amazing woman. He had responsibilities, like a job that kept him out of the country more than he was in it, taking care of his sister, and juggling his father’s narcissism and his mother’s martyr complex. He had no interest in…

In what?

With a sinking sensation in his gut, he realized he might feel some actual attachment beyond the physical. Attachment was fine, but in this case, it felt risky. Not risky like an investment in a small company with a great product and a lot of potential, but risky like walking barefoot through a field of copperheads.

Kelsey twisted sideways so she was facing him.

“Oh my god, I’m pretty sure I have no bones now.” Her eyes shone with desire and mischief. “But I see you still have at least one.”

He grinned and shoved away all thoughts. When she reached for him, he fell into her.

Kelsey lay next to a drowsing Aaron and watched him try not to fall asleep. She knew the feeling—the dry heat had sapped her energy, as had the convention, and then they had decided to try doggie style after she’d already had her monthly quota of orgasms—but concern pressed against her. She’d had fun. A lot of fun. And thoughts of more. Lots more. She’d been missing out on fun for far too long, and this was the kind of daily diversion she wouldn’t mind indulging in more often. But they were living in a dream world here—this wasn’t the real world but a fantasy decked out in dinging slot machines and Medieval cosplaying romance lovers. In real life, their social circles would never see them meet, much less socialize. He lived among the wealthy, and she had always been and always would be of very modest means. She was a dalliance, and she accepted this. There was no room for thoughts of more.

Aaron’s breath grew deep and slow, so Kelsey rose from the bed and headed for the shower. It was a little while yet until the ball, but it never hurt to get ready early.

She’d just finished with her hair and had the bar of soap in hand when the shower curtain parted, and Aaron stepped over the tub’s edge to join her.

“Can I help with your back?” He grinned, slow and sated, but he was already aroused.

She ached to have him again, but she was pretty sure he’d only had two condoms with him, and she had none. “No time for love, Doctor Jones,” she said. “I have a ball to attend.”

He took the soap from her and turned her around. “No worries. I have to refresh my supply. I didn’t exactly expect to come to a romance convention prepared to meet a randy romance writer.
